MACBAN Demands Thorough Probe Into Killing of Benue Chairman, Ardo Risku
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the killing of its Benue State Chairman, Ardo Risku, urging security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the murder of its Benue State Chairman, Ardo Risku, urging security agencies to swiftly identify, arrest, and prosecute those behind the killing.
The association expressed shock and outrage over the death of Risku, describing the killing as a heinous act that must not go unpunished.
In a statement, MACBAN called on the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, and relevant security agencies to treat the incident with the seriousness it deserves and ensure that justice is delivered for the slain leader and his bereaved family.
The association recalled that Risku had played a significant role in advocating for the welfare of pastoralists, promoting peaceful coexistence, and engaging with stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the recurring farmers-herders conflicts in the country.
According to MACBAN, the killing of its state chairman is not only a great loss to the association but also a serious threat to the ongoing efforts at fostering peace, dialogue, and reconciliation between herding and farming communities in Benue State and beyond.
The association warned that the failure to bring the perpetrators to justice could embolden further attacks on its members and other innocent citizens, thereby worsening the security situation in the state and the wider region.
MACBAN called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the possible motive, the identities of those involved, and any wider plot that may have led to the incident.
The association urged the authorities to leave no stone unturned in unmasking those behind the act and ensuring that they face the full weight of the law, regardless of their status or affiliation.
It also appealed to its members, sympathisers, and other stakeholders to remain calm and refrain from any form of reprisal or actions capable of further inflaming tensions in the affected communities.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful coexistence and dialogue, stressing that the loss of its chairman would not deter it from pursuing initiatives aimed at promoting harmony among different groups in the country.
It further called on the government to strengthen security across vulnerable areas, particularly in states with a history of farmers-herders clashes, and to address the underlying issues fuelling such conflicts.
The killing of Risku has sparked widespread condemnation from various quarters, with stakeholders calling for urgent action to halt the cycle of violence and protect the lives of citizens regardless of their occupation or background.
Benue State has, in recent years, witnessed several incidents of violence linked to farmers-herders disputes, banditry, and other forms of insecurity, prompting calls for more decisive government action to restore peace and stability.
MACBAN expressed its condolences to the family of the slain chairman and assured them of the association's support during the difficult period.
The association also appealed to the people of Benue State and other stakeholders to support efforts aimed at uncovering the truth behind the killing and ensuring justice for the deceased.
