Osun LG Chairmen Donate 60 Patrol Vehicles to Boost Security Operations
Osun APC local government chairmen donated 60 patrol vehicles to security agencies, saying local government autonomy enabled the initiative to strengthen security, improve response capacity, and protect residents statewide.
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), comprising local government chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has donated 60 patrol vehicles to security agencies to strengthen security operations across the state.
The vehicles were officially presented on Saturday at the Osun State Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo by the association’s chairman, Samuel Idowu.
Speaking during the presentation, Idowu described the donation as a demonstration of the councils’ commitment to protecting lives, maintaining peace and supporting security agencies in combating crime.
He recalled that the association had earlier donated 30 patrol vehicles, noting that the latest distribution fulfilled its promise to provide a total of 90 patrol vehicles to security agencies.
“Just a few weeks ago, we unveiled the distribution of patrol vehicles, and I am glad to inform this gathering that the remaining vehicles are now ready for deployment. This is indeed a promise made and a promise kept,” he said.
Idowu stressed that security remains the foundation of meaningful development, adding that no society could achieve sustainable growth without peace and stability.
He attributed the success of the initiative to the financial autonomy currently enjoyed by local governments following the Supreme Court judgment granting greater independence to local councils.
According to him, the autonomy has empowered local governments to pool resources, identify local security needs and execute projects aimed at improving the welfare and safety of residents without unnecessary delays.
He described the donation as evidence that grassroots governance can deliver tangible results when adequately empowered.
Idowu urged the benefiting agencies to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicles and deploy them effectively in safeguarding lives and property.
The patrol vehicles were distributed to the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service and other security formations operating in the state.
Responding on behalf of the agencies, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, commended ALGON for the intervention, describing security as a collective responsibility.
He said the vehicles would improve operational mobility, response time, intelligence gathering, patrol coverage and inter-agency collaboration across the state.
Gotan assured residents that the vehicles would be used strictly for security operations and maintained properly to ensure effective service delivery in protecting lives and property throughout Osun State.
