Kaduna Police Arraign 24 Suspects Over Maraban-Jos Mob Killing

Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 24 suspects before a Magistrate Court sitting at NDA Junction, Kaduna, over their alleged involvement in the mob killing of a woman in Maraban-Jos.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.

According to the police, the charges stem from a violent incident that occurred on June 21, 2026, when a woman was allegedly attacked and killed by a mob after being removed from police custody.

Hassan explained that the arraignment followed a comprehensive investigation carried out by the command into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He said the matter was mentioned before the court and subsequently adjourned until July 21, 2026, for further hearing.

The court also ordered that all 24 suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.

The police spokesman strongly condemned mob action and jungle justice, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands under any circumstance.

He stressed that anyone found engaging in unlawful acts or participating in mob violence would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Hassan further disclosed that investigations were still ongoing and that more than 100 additional suspects had been identified and were currently being investigated in connection with the incident.

“Those found culpable will also be arraigned before the court,” he stated.

The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Muhammad Rabiu, assured the public that the command remained committed to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining law and order across the state.

Rabiu urged members of the public to report criminal allegations and grievances through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence or self-help.

He emphasised that the police would continue to pursue all individuals connected to the incident and ensure that justice is served.

The command also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations and help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Police authorities reiterated their resolve to uphold the rule of law and bring all perpetrators involved in the mob killing to justice.
