Gov. Soludo Pledges to Rebuild Nnewi, Transform it into Leading Industrial Hub
Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has vowed to restore Nnewi's status as a major commercial and industrial centre through strategic urban renewal and the revival of abandoned public assets.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring Nnewi to its former glory as the state’s premier industrial and commercial nerve centre through aggressive urban renewal.
Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has pledged to transform Nnewi and reclaim its position as a top industrial hub in the region. The governor made the commitment on Wednesday during a comprehensive inspection tour of key public infrastructure and development sites in the commercial city.
Soludo explained that the visit was designed to assess infrastructure deficits, recover abandoned public assets, and unlock Nnewi’s massive economic potential.
A major focal point of the governor’s tour was the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, where a sprawling shopping complex has been left uncompleted and abandoned for roughly 17 years. Frowning at the prolonged neglect, Soludo described the situation as a colossal waste of state resources.
“It is unacceptable that public assets intended to drive commerce have been left to rot for nearly two decades,” Soludo stated. “We are here to draw a line in the sand. This facility will no longer be a monument to neglect; we are moving swiftly to restore it to productive use for the benefit of the people of Nnewi.”
Beyond the shopping complex, the governor also inspected the Nnewi Post Office area and the State High Court premises. He noted that these locations would be integrated into a larger urban masterplan aimed at improving road accessibility and boosting public service delivery.
To sustain the city’s competitiveness and accommodate its expanding workforce, Soludo revealed that his administration is scouting for suitable locations for new housing developments.
The state government is also mapping out underutilised open spaces across Nnewi. According to the governor, these spaces will be converted into modern public parks, recreational centres, and productive commercial facilities.
“Our strategy is simple: we are unlocking the hidden value of Nnewi,” the governor added. “By converting dormant open spaces into vibrant public parks and productive facilities, we are not just fixing buildings; we are stimulating local commerce. We are also reclaiming Nnewi's rightful place as the premier industrial nerve centre of the region.”
Soludo assured residents and business owners that construction and redevelopment work on the identified projects would begin in the coming weeks.
