Five Killed, Eight Injured in Niger Road Crash
Five people were killed and eight others injured in a road accident involving a commercial bus and a trailer in Agaie, Niger State. Emergency responders evacuated the victims as authorities urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations.
Five people have lost their lives while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road accident in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State. The crash occurred on Sunday and involved a commercial bus and a trailer along the Lambata-Bida Road.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the incident, stating that emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene to rescue victims and evacuate those affected. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in a mortuary.
Although the exact cause of the accident is still being investigated, emergency officials urged motorists to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution while travelling, particularly on major highways where fatal crashes remain common.
Authorities also stressed the importance of avoiding excessive speed, dangerous overtaking and other reckless driving practices, noting that such behaviours continue to contribute significantly to road accidents across the country.
The latest tragedy has renewed concerns over road safety in Nigeria, with stakeholders calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and greater awareness among motorists to reduce preventable accidents.
