APC Reaffirms Commitment to Expanding Opportunities for Women
APC National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru has reiterated the party's commitment to expanding opportunities for women in politics and governance. Speaking at the APC Diaspora/Global Women Summit in Rome, he urged Nigerian women abroad to support democratic participation and national development.
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Basiru, has reaffirmed the party's commitment to increasing opportunities for women in politics and public governance, describing gender inclusion as a key pillar of the party's vision.
Basiru made the remarks while delivering a keynote address at the APC Diaspora/Global Women Summit 2026 in Rome, Italy. He urged Nigerian women in the diaspora to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu's reforms and the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that their contributions remain vital to national development.
According to him, women in the diaspora possess valuable professional expertise, global exposure and leadership experience that can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria's growth. He encouraged them to promote civic participation, mentor younger women, counter misinformation and actively engage in democratic processes.
Basiru stated that the APC would continue to promote greater female participation in political leadership, policy formulation, party administration and electoral mobilisation. He maintained that inclusive leadership produces stronger governance outcomes and remains essential to sustainable democratic development.
The summit brought together APC women leaders and members from different countries to discuss strategies for strengthening women's participation in governance and expanding the party's global engagement through its diaspora network.
