ADC Chieftain Criticizes Wike Over Remarks on Atiku's 2027 Presidential Ambition
ADC chieftain Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has faulted FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over his remarks on Atiku Abubakar's 2027 presidential ambition, insisting that only Nigerian voters. not individual politicians, can decide who becomes president.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his reported claim that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would not become Nigeria's president in 2027. He described the remarks as undemocratic and inconsistent with the principles of a democratic society.
Eze was reacting to Wike's recent statement in which the minister reportedly said he possessed the political structure to ensure that Atiku, who is expected to contest on the ADC platform, would fail in his presidential bid. According to Eze, no individual, regardless of political influence or office, has the authority to determine the outcome of a democratic election.
The ADC chieftain argued that the choice of Nigeria's president rests solely with the electorate, stressing that attempts to portray any politician as capable of deciding election results undermine democratic values. He maintained that voters, not political office holders, would ultimately determine who emerges victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
Eze further described Wike's comments as political grandstanding, insisting they should not intimidate opposition parties or Nigerians seeking political change. He urged political leaders to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than statements capable of heightening political tension ahead of the next general election.
He also called on Nigerians to remain committed to the democratic process and resist attempts to discourage participation in future elections, expressing confidence that the will of the people would prevail at the polls.
