2027: I Endorse Obi, but I Still Support Tinubu’s Policies — Omo-Agege

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has declared his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election while affirming his continued backing for major economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Omo-Agege made the remarks during an appearance on ARISE TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, where he explained his political stance following his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing concerns over his endorsement of Obi despite previously supporting Tinubu’s economic agenda, the former Delta Central senator insisted that his position on the administration’s reforms remains unchanged.

According to him, he did not abandon the APC voluntarily but felt the party had failed him and his supporters in Delta State.

“I was a member of the APC. I never left the APC; the party left me and left my over 230,000 supporters in Delta State,” he said.

Omo-Agege maintained that some of the administration’s most significant economic measures, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, were necessary decisions for the country’s economic future.

He stressed that he supported those policies when they were introduced and continues to support them despite his departure from the ruling party.

The former deputy senate president argued that support for the reforms should not be viewed as exclusive to Tinubu or the APC, noting that Obi had also publicly advocated similar economic policies.

According to him, his endorsement of Obi does not represent a rejection of the reforms but rather confidence that the former Anambra State governor could implement them more effectively.

Omo-Agege said many Nigerians who remain sceptical of the policies may be more willing to embrace them under Obi’s leadership because of the trust they place in him.

“The question is, have I changed my opinion about this? No, I have not,” he stated.

He added that while the policies would likely continue under a new political platform, public confidence in their implementation could improve if they were driven by a leader whom more Nigerians trust.

The comments add a new dimension to the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, as politicians and parties begin realigning and positioning themselves for the next presidential contest.
