World Cup 2026: Trossard Becomes Sixth Arsenal Player to Register Assist at Tournament
Leandro Trossard became the sixth Arsenal player to record an assist at the 2026 World Cup after helping Belgium defeat Senegal, extending the Gunners’ remarkable creative influence at the tournament.
Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard has become the sixth player from the Premier League club to provide an assist at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving the Gunners the highest number of assist providers at the tournament.
Trossard achieved the feat during Belgium’s dramatic 3-2 extra-time victory over Senegal in their Round of 32 encounter on Thursday.
The Belgian international played 109 minutes and supplied the assist for Youri Tielemans’ late equaliser, helping Belgium overturn a two-goal deficit before eventually sealing qualification for the Round of 16.
Romelu Lukaku and Tielemans, who scored twice, completed Belgium’s remarkable comeback after Senegal had taken a commanding 2-0 lead.
The victory secured Belgium’s place in the knockout stage, where they will face co-hosts the United States in the Round of 16 next week.
Trossard’s contribution also highlighted Arsenal’s growing influence at the World Cup, with no other club boasting more players providing assists during the competition.
Club captain Martin Ødegaard leads Arsenal’s assist chart at the tournament with three assists, while Viktor Gyökeres and Bukayo Saka have each registered two.
Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice have both contributed one assist, with Trossard now joining them after his decisive involvement against Senegal.
The impressive record reflects Arsenal’s strong representation across several national teams and the creative impact of their players on the global stage.
Trossard has enjoyed another productive campaign for Belgium, combining his versatility and creativity to help Roberto Martínez’s side remain among the contenders for the World Cup title.
Belgium will now shift focus to their last-16 clash against the United States, where Trossard is expected to play another key role as the Red Devils aim to continue their World Cup journey.
Arsenal supporters will also be encouraged by the performances of their players, who continue to make decisive contributions for their respective countries throughout the tournament.
