World Cup 2026: ‘Go and Cry Now’ – Moroccan Star Mocks Senegal After Belgium Defeat

Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi has reignited tensions between Morocco and Senegal after mocking the West African nation following its elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Chibi took to Instagram shortly after Senegal’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, posting a clip showing the final scoreline with the caption, “Go and cry now.”

Senegal suffered a painful exit after surrendering a two-goal advantage before Belgium completed an extraordinary comeback in extra time to secure a place in the Round of 16.

Although Chibi was not included in Morocco’s World Cup squad by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, his social media post quickly attracted attention due to the longstanding rivalry between the two African nations.

The latest exchange appears to stem from the controversial Africa Cup of Nations final played on January 18, 2026.

During that match, Senegal temporarily walked off the pitch in protest after a goal was ruled out and a Video Assistant Referee decision went against them in stoppage time.

The Lions of Teranga eventually returned to the field after approximately 14 minutes, with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy saving a penalty from Brahim Diaz before the match remained goalless at the end of regulation time.

Pape Gueye later scored during extra time to hand Senegal victory and what appeared to be the AFCON title.

However, Senegal was subsequently stripped of the championship because of the temporary walk-off, with Morocco officially declared the winners.

Senegal has since challenged that decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and the appeal remains unresolved.

Chibi’s latest comments suggest that the controversy has done little to ease tensions between the two countries.

While Morocco advanced to the World Cup Round of 16 after defeating the Netherlands on penalties, Senegal’s campaign ended in disappointment following their collapse against Belgium.

The social media exchange has further fuelled one of African football’s most heated modern rivalries.
