WAFCON 2026: NSC Offers Super Falcons $5,000 Goal Bonus for Group Stage

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a performance-based incentive package for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, promising the team $5,000 for every goal scored during the group stage of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Chairman of the NSC, Shehu Dikko, during a visit to the Super Falcons’ camp at the Marriott Hotel in Rabat, Morocco.

According to the commission, the incentive is aimed at motivating the nine-time African champions as they begin their quest to retain the continental title.

Dikko assured the players and technical crew of the Federal Government’s continued support, urging them to approach every match with determination and a winning mentality.

The NSC also disclosed that the goal bonus would be reviewed upwards if the team progresses beyond the group stage, although no specific figures were announced for the knockout rounds.

The Super Falcons will begin their WAFCON 2026 campaign on Tuesday night against tournament debutants, the Scorchers of Malawi, at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

The encounter marks the first-ever senior international meeting between Nigeria and Malawi.

Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to rely on a blend of experienced stars and emerging talents as Nigeria seeks to make a strong start to its title defence.

The Super Falcons remain the most successful team in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, having won the competition a record nine times.

Victory against Malawi would provide Nigeria with an early advantage in the group stage and strengthen the team’s chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds.

The introduction of a goal-based incentive reflects the commission’s desire to encourage attacking football while rewarding strong performances throughout the tournament.
