Fubara Commends IGP Disu for Neutrality During Rivers Crisis
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, for maintaining neutrality and professionalism while serving as Commissioner of Police in the state during its political crisis.
Fubara gave the commendation on Tuesday when Disu paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor said the police chief had demonstrated commitment to duty by balancing competing interests during a difficult period in the state’s political history.
He expressed delight at welcoming Disu back to Rivers State in his new capacity, describing the visit as a homecoming for an officer who had served the state during a challenging period.
Fubara said Disu’s conduct during the crisis had earned him recognition, adding that his service would remain part of the state’s history.
The governor also noted that the Inspector-General was assuming national leadership of the police at a challenging time, with the 2027 general elections approaching.
He prayed for divine guidance for Disu in carrying out his responsibilities and assured him of the Rivers State Government’s continued cooperation in maintaining law and order.
Fubara said collaboration between the police and state authorities was essential to ensuring security and stability, particularly during periods of political tension.
In his remarks, Disu said he visited Rivers State to thank the governor and residents for their cooperation during his tenure as commissioner of police.
He commended the people of the state for maintaining peace and thanked Fubara for the support he received while in office, as well as the assistance being extended to his successor.
The Inspector-General stressed that effective policing depended on cooperation from state governments and other stakeholders.
He also disclosed that he was in Port Harcourt to attend the book launch of retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga, whom he described as a distinguished figure in the history of women in the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu further conveyed appreciation from other security agencies for the Rivers State Government’s support for security operations in the state.
