Olympics Qualifier: Nnadozie Warns Falcons Ahead of Comoros Rematch

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has warned Nigeria against complacency ahead of Tuesday’s return-leg clash with Comoros in the race to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Nigeria take a 2-0 advantage into the encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, following their victory in the first leg on Friday.

Second-half goals from defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu secured the win for the Super Falcons, giving interim coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side an important advantage ahead of the rematch.

However, Nnadozie insists the team must not underestimate Comoros, stressing that international football has become increasingly competitive and that a team’s reputation alone does not guarantee victory.

The Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper said the Falcons remained determined to improve their performance and secure progression to the next qualifying round.

She emphasised that the first-leg victory was only part of the task and that the players would give their best to complete the job.

The return fixture will again take place at the Remo Stars Stadium because Comoros do not have a venue approved by the Confederation of African Football to host the match.

Eguavoen has also urged his players to target another victory rather than simply defend their two-goal lead. The coach said maintaining the team’s tactical structure would remain important as Nigeria seek to finish the tie convincingly.

The technical crew is also using the qualifying campaign to assess additional players, with several members of the squad receiving their first call-ups as the team builds depth ahead of tougher challenges.

The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to the third qualifying round, where Morocco await.

Nigeria are seeking to qualify for consecutive Olympic women’s football tournaments after returning to the competition at Paris 2024, ending a 16-year absence.

With the next round at stake, Nnadozie’s warning reflects the team’s determination to approach the rematch with focus and discipline rather than rely solely on its first-leg advantage.
