Police Arrest Three Suspects over Drug Possession, Child Defilement in Bauchi
Bauchi Police have arrested two men over suspected Indian hemp possession and a 20-year-old man over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl in Dass.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in separate cases involving alleged possession of Indian hemp and the defilement of a seven-year-old girl.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, describing the arrests as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.
Habib said two men, Iliyasu Yakubu, 27, and Zakariya Ibrahim, 25, both residents of Duguri town, were arrested on October 12 by a patrol team attached to the Duguri Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to him, Yakubu was allegedly found with dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, while Ibrahim was identified as the vendor. The police recovered the suspected substance and said investigations into the case were ongoing.
In a separate incident, operatives arrested 20-year-old Mujahid Danjuma over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl in the Bundot area of Dass Local Government Area.
Habib said the victim’s mother reported the incident at the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters on September 28. The alleged offence reportedly occurred on September 25, when the suspect allegedly lured the girl into an unfinished building.
The police spokesperson said the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Dass, where a medical examination confirmed penetration. The suspect reportedly fled after the incident but was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13, following sustained police follow-up and intelligence-led operations.
Habib said all three suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.
The command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
