US Releases $13 Million Emergency Aid Over Ebola Outbreak in Africa
The United States Department of State has announced the activation of an emergency response plan following new Ebola outbreaks reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
According to a statement shared via the official account of the U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, the U.S. government mobilised an initial $13 million in foreign assistance to support urgent containment and response efforts.
The statement noted that the emergency plan was activated within 48 hours of confirmation of the outbreak, reflecting what officials described as a rapid response approach to emerging global health threats.
It added that the funding will be directed toward strengthening coordination efforts, improving medical response capacity, and supporting humanitarian operations in affected regions.
The U.S. government also said it is leveraging previous investments in global health and humanitarian systems coordinated through the United Nations to ensure faster deployment of resources on the ground.
Officials emphasized that international collaboration remains critical in managing infectious disease outbreaks, especially in regions with limited healthcare infrastructure.
The statement further described American leadership as “indispensable” in addressing global health emergencies and preventing wider spread across borders.
Health experts warn that Ebola outbreaks require swift containment measures, including contact tracing, isolation protocols, and community engagement to prevent further transmission.
The latest funding package is expected to complement ongoing efforts by African health authorities and international partners working to control the outbreak and protect vulnerable populations.
