Trump Repeats Club World Cup Act During Spain's World Cup Celebration
Donald Trump remained on stage during Spain's 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy celebration, repeating a moment similar to the 2025 Club World Cup final. The incident drew widespread online attention after Spain defeated Argentina to win their second World Cup title.
US President Donald Trump once again found himself at the centre of attention during a FIFA trophy presentation after remaining on stage as Spain celebrated their 2026 FIFA World Cup triumph, echoing a similar moment at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, with Ferran Torres scoring the winning goal to secure the country's second World Cup title.
Trump joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino in presenting the trophy to Spain captain Rodri. However, instead of leaving the podium after the presentation, the US president remained on stage as the Spanish players prepared to lift the trophy. Television footage showed Infantino appearing to gesture for Trump to step aside, but he stayed beside the celebrating players as confetti fell and the trophy was raised.
The incident quickly sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users comparing it to Trump's appearance during Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup victory in 2025, when he also remained on the podium during the team's celebrations. Some observers criticised his presence for overshadowing Spain's moment, while others defended his participation as part of the official trophy presentation.
Following the ceremony, FIFA and Spain's official social media accounts shared celebration photos that focused on the players lifting the trophy, with several widely circulated images excluding Trump from the main frame. The World Cup final was attended by more than 80,000 spectators, marking the conclusion of the expanded 48-team tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
