Tinubu Warns Criminals After Troops Kill Kogi Bandit Leader
President Tinubu has hailed recent military successes against banditry, saying the elimination of a notorious gang leader and rescue operations demonstrate renewed momentum in the fight against insecurity.
President Bola Tinubu has warned criminal elements across Nigeria that they will find no refuge anywhere in the country following the killing of a notorious bandit leader by security forces in Kogi State.
The President issued the warning on Tuesday while commending the Armed Forces and other security agencies for what he described as a major operational success against criminal networks responsible for violent attacks, kidnappings and other crimes in parts of the country.
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the operation led to the elimination of Ibrahim Bastuji, a feared bandit kingpin accused of orchestrating attacks and terrorising communities across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
Tinubu described the development as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in affected communities.
“I congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals. Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place,” the President stated.
He added that the successful operation reflected the determination of security forces to reclaim areas threatened by criminal elements and reassure citizens of the government’s commitment to their safety.
The President also praised security personnel for the rescue of Hajiya Amina Abubakar, widow of the late former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), who was rescued during military operations after being held by bandits.
Tinubu described the rescue as evidence of the courage, professionalism and dedication of security personnel confronting insecurity across the country.
“The safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source of relief to her family and to all Nigerians,” he said.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to provide security agencies with the resources, training and support required to combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Redemption Party criticised the Federal Government over the country’s security challenges while mourning the death of Major General Rabe Abubakar in captivity.
The opposition party described the incident as evidence of the need for stronger action against insecurity and called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of other abducted Nigerians still being held by criminal groups across the country.
