Tinubu Says Oyo Teacher’s Murder Barbaric, Orders Victims’ Rescue
President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of one of the abducted teachers from Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as “barbaric” and assuring Nigerians that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
The condemnation was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, armed bandits invaded the Esiele community last Friday and attacked several schools, including Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
During the attack, staff members, students and pupils were abducted, sparking outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the country.
Tinubu expressed sympathy to Governor Seyi Makinde, the affected families and residents of the community, while assuring them that both federal and state authorities were working together to secure the release of all victims still in captivity.
The President also commended the swift response of the Inspector-General of Police and security operatives in Oyo and Kwara states, noting that tactical units and the Intelligence Response Team had already been deployed for rescue operations.
“The Federal Government is working with the Oyo State Government to rescue all the victims,” Tinubu said.
He further disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police was personally coordinating the operation based on his directive, expressing confidence that the perpetrators and their collaborators would soon be apprehended.
“We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the President stated.
Tinubu also used the incident to renew calls for the creation of state police, arguing that such a structure would help improve security coverage in underserved communities across the country.
According to him, the National Assembly should accelerate legislative processes aimed at establishing state police as part of broader efforts to tackle kidnapping, banditry and violent crimes nationwide.
