Tinubu's Lack of Communication with Makinde Over Oyo Kidnappings Reflects 'Uncompassionate Leadership,' Says Peter Obi
Peter Obi revealed that President Tinubu has not contacted Governor Seyi Makinde over the 50-day-old abduction of Oyo students, labeling it a failure of leadership and demanding Tinubu resign or drop his re-election bid.
Opposition leader Peter Obi has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu, describing his administration as "uncompassionate" after discovering that the President has allegedly failed to contact Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, more than 50 days after the mass abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso.
Obi made the disclosure on Monday following a solidarity visit to Ibadan alongside economist Prof. Pat Utomi. During a two-hour closed-door meeting with Governor Makinde, Obi stated he was shocked to find out that the presidency had not initiated a single direct phone call or consultation with the state's leadership regarding the tragedy.
Drawing from his own tenure as Governor of Anambra State, Obi recalled how past Presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan, would personally make multiple calls to state executives whenever critical security breaches occurred.
He lambasted Tinubu for showing a clear "incapacity and lack of compassion," noting that the federal government's detached attitude is turning citizens' trauma into volatile public resentment. Obi asserted that if the President cannot actively manage his primary constitutional duty of securing Nigerian lives, he should either resign or completely abandon his 2027 re-election aspirations.
