"This Country Does Not Belong to Kidnappers" — Gov Okpebholo Sends Warning to Criminals
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has declared that Nigeria will not be held captive by kidnappers, calling for national prayers and unity to defeat rising insecurity.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sent a strong message to criminal elements across the country, asserting that Nigeria will not be surrendered to kidnappers, bandits, or any group seeking to hold the nation captive.
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has declared that Nigeria remains a sovereign territory for its citizens and not a playground for kidnappers and other violent criminals.
The Governor made this declaration on Sunday during a visit to LoveWorld City (Christ Embassy) in Benin City. Speaking to the congregation, Okpebholo emphasized that no individual or criminal syndicate should be allowed to hold the nation hostage for personal or political gains.
“This country does not belong to kidnappers,” the Governor stated. “No individual or group should hold the nation captive for personal or political interests. We must stand together to ensure that our land is safe for all.”
Okpebholo noted with concern that as political activities and elections draw closer, there has been a noticeable spike in kidnapping incidents. However, he expressed firm confidence that through a combination of strategic security measures and collective spiritual intervention, the nation would emerge victorious over its current security woes.
The Governor called on the Christian community and all Nigerians to intensify prayers for the nation’s peace, prosperity, and economic recovery. He specifically urged the congregation to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking for divine wisdom and strength for the President to navigate the country through its present challenges.
“As elections draw closer, kidnapping has become a growing concern. However, with the prayers of God's people and our collective efforts, we believe these challenges will be overcome,” he added.
Since assuming office, the Okpebholo administration has launched several aggressive campaigns against insecurity in Edo State, including the demolition of properties linked to kidnappers and the strengthening of the state’s Special Security Squad.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Edo State "non-habitable" for criminals, promising to sustain the ongoing crackdown on cultism and highway abductions.
