Terrorism Sponsors Must Be Exposed — Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Nigerians to keep praying for the exposure of terrorism sponsors, expressing confidence that the country will overcome insecurity and emerge stronger through unity and resilience.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope amid the country’s security challenges, stressing the need for continued prayers to expose and defeat sponsors of terrorism and violent crimes.
Akpabio made the call during an Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day celebration. The service, themed “God of Hope, Actualise Our Dreams,” brought together government officials, religious leaders and worshippers to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey.
In a statement issued by his media office on Sunday, the Senate President recalled that he introduced monthly prayer sessions while serving as governor of Akwa Ibom State to confront rising cases of militancy, kidnapping and killings.
According to him, prayer played a significant role in tackling insecurity during his tenure and remains essential in the nation’s fight against terrorism and criminality.
“When I served as governor, I started monthly prayer meetings because of militancy, kidnapping and killings. Today, we must continue praying so that evil doers and their sponsors will be exposed,” he said.
Akpabio maintained that those behind insecurity would eventually be uncovered, whether they operate within or outside government circles.
The Senate President acknowledged the pain and suffering caused by insecurity, including attacks on communities, kidnappings and threats to farmers and travellers. He said the trauma experienced by families of abducted persons remains a national concern.
Drawing from his childhood experiences during the Nigerian Civil War, Akpabio said he understood the anguish of uncertainty and expressed sympathy for families whose loved ones remain in captivity.
Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current security problems, just as it survived political crises, economic difficulties, epidemics and insurgencies in the past.
He also assured Nigerians that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to restoring peace, defeating criminal elements and securing the release of all abducted persons across the country.
