Taraba Governor Redeems N100m Pledge to Donga Christian Community
Governor Agbu Kefas fulfilled his N100 million financial relief promise to the Christian community in the Donga Local Government Area. The funds are aimed at facilitating rebuilding and reconciliation efforts following local religious clashes in late 2025.
Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has fulfilled his promise of a N100 million financial intervention to the Christian community in the Donga Local Government Area of the state.
The financial relief is part of the administration's broader framework aimed at solidifying peace and reconciliation in the area following a religious crisis that broke out in November 2025.
Confirming the development in an official statement, the State Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Zainab Jalingo, noted that the intervention was designed to ensure fairness, rebuild communal trust, and foster peaceful coexistence among the affected groups.
The presentation of the bank cheque was executed on behalf of the governor by the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau for Local Government, Traditional and Chieftaincy Affairs, Godfrey Andrew. He described the gesture as a clear reflection of Governor Kefas’ dedication to inclusive governance and permanent peace building across Taraba.
According to Andrew, the governor remains firm in his belief that sustainable socioeconomic development can only thrive in an environment rooted in harmony, unity, and mutual respect.
He reiterated that the current administration is fully committed to implementing policies that prioritize justice, reconciliation, and equal opportunities for all citizens, without bias to their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary emphasized that the N100 million support serves a dual purpose: fulfilling a direct promise made in the wake of the crisis and actively restoring hope among the affected residents.
Receiving the intervention on behalf of the beneficiaries, the leader of the Christian community praised Governor Kefas for honoring his word.
He described the financial release as a monumental step toward communal healing, reconciliation, and the restoration of public confidence in the state government. He further assured the administration that the funds would be strictly deployed for initiatives that drive community development and encourage peaceful coexistence within the Donga local council.
