The Adamawa State Police Command arrested four young suspects following an armed raid at a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge in Jimeta. The suspects illegally entered the premises and robbed 36 corps members of their mobile phones, four of which have been recovered.
The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended four suspects linked to a coordinated armed robbery, illegal possession of weapons, and criminal trespass at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge in Yola.
According to a press statement issued by the command's spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the arrested suspects have been identified as 17-year-old Elkana Ishaya, Mubarak Abubakar, 22, Musa Umar, 30, and 20-year-old Kabiru Tanko, all residents of the Jimeta area in Yola.
The security breach occurred on June 27 at the Corpers’ Lodge located within the Specialist Hospital premises in Jimeta. Armed with dangerous weapons, the gang illegally made their way into the facility and forcefully dispossessed roughly 36 corps members of their personal belongings, primarily mobile phones.
Acting on the distress report, police operatives attached to the Karewa Area Command immediately launched a targeted investigation. The swift intervention led to the tracking and arrest of the four individuals, alongside the initial recovery of four stolen mobile phones belonging to the victims.
Nguroje added that detectives are currently widening their search to recover the remaining stolen electronic devices and arrest other fleeing members of the criminal network who are currently at large.
The command confirmed that the suspects will be formally arraigned in a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as preliminary investigations are concluded.
Reacting to the incident, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, reassured the general public, and specifically members of the NYSC scheme serving within the state, of the force's absolute commitment to protecting their lives and properties.
The police chief further appealed to local residents to remain vigilant and swiftly report any suspicious movements or unfamiliar individuals to the nearest law enforcement post.
