Kogi Governor Pledges Enhanced Support, Infrastructure Upgrades for Federal University Lokoja

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration's willingness to strengthen security systems, scale up infrastructure, and provide robust institutional backing for the Federal University Lokoja (FUL).

The governor also promised rapid executive intervention to tackle pressing difficulties confronting the institution, emphasizing campus protection, perimeter fencing, vehicular road safety, and proper land documentation.

Governor Ododo gave the assurances while hosting the senior management team of the university, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Lokoja.

Congratulating Professor Solomon on his recent appointment as the fourth Vice-Chancellor of the federal institution, the governor lauded the university’s leadership for their relentless commitment to upgrading the standard of higher education within the state.

He reassured the academic delegation that his administration would maintain its priority on safeguarding lives and property within the school and its neighboring communities, adding that existing security measures deployed by the state government have drastically minimized safety threats.

Governor Ododo revealed that engineering teams would soon mobilize to commence the construction of the university's perimeter fence, while administrative procedures are being expedited to secure the formal Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the institution's landed assets.

Expressing his appreciation to the university's host communities for their patience and cooperation, the governor gave assurances that all legitimate grievances, particularly outstanding land compensation matters, would be resolved with complete equity and transparency.

To mitigate recurring traffic accidents occurring near the university boundaries, the governor stated that the construction of a pedestrian overpass at the institution’s main gate, alongside a dedicated bypass road passing through the Agbaja axis, remain key projects being executed in partnership with relevant federal stakeholders.
