.
The critical restoration project was executed under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase One (ATASP-1) and transferred directly to the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority (AIRBDA). The intervention included the complete overhaul of the primary pumping station and the structural lining of 40.1 kilometers of vital irrigation canals.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Arabi, National Programme Coordinator of ATASP-1, stated that the restored infrastructure now secures year-round water access for over 2,000 hectares of high-potential farmland. Local leaders and farmers in the Ayamelum agricultural corridor have widely celebrated the reopening, noting that the capacity to run multiple planting cycles annually will directly scale up local rice and vegetable production while insulating smallholders from climate-related rainfall anomalies.
