Rescue Remaining Kidnap Victims, Atiku Tells FG After Freedom of 360 Borno Abductees
Atiku Abubakar welcomed the rescue of 360 Borno abductees, urging government and security agencies to intensify efforts to free remaining kidnap victims and strengthen national security.
Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure the release of Nigerians still being held by terrorists and bandits across the country.
Atiku made the appeal while reacting to reports of the rescue of 360 abducted residents from Ngoshe community in Borno State. He described the development as a welcome relief for the victims and their families, who had endured months of uncertainty since the abduction in March.
The former vice president commended the military and other security agencies involved in the operation, praising their commitment to ensuring the safe return of the captives. He expressed confidence that Nigeria’s armed forces could overcome insurgency and insecurity if adequately equipped and supported with effective political leadership.
While celebrating the successful rescue, Atiku noted that terrorism and banditry remain major threats to national security. He therefore called on authorities not to relent in efforts to secure the freedom of other victims still in captivity, including abducted schoolchildren and teachers in parts of Oyo State and Borno State.
He also advocated a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security architecture, stressing the need for greater emphasis on intelligence gathering, technology-driven operations, and preventive strategies capable of stopping attacks before they occur.
According to Atiku, strengthening security institutions and adopting proactive measures remain essential to ending the country’s prolonged security challenges and restoring confidence among citizens.
