President Tinubu Approves Appointment of Associate Professor Smart Olugbeko as Ilawe-Ekiti FCE Provost

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Associate Professor Smart Olugbeko as the substantive Provost of the Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The strategic leadership appointment was formally announced on Wednesday by the institution's Governing Council following its 8th Regular Meeting.

According to an official statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Dr. Khadijah Garba, the appointment is for a single, non-renewable term of five years and takes immediate effect from the date Olugbeko officially assumes duty. The council expressed supreme confidence in the new provost’s capacity to deploy his extensive administrative background to strengthen the newly established institution's position as a regional center of academic excellence in teacher education.

Prior to his elevation by the federal government, Olugbeko established a robust academic career spanning more than two decades in teaching, research, and institutional leadership:

  • Recent Postings: He served as a Chief Lecturer on secondment at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Ekiadolor, Edo State, and previously held sabbatical and secondment roles at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos.

  • Academic Roots: Olugbeko began his higher education career at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo (now Adeyemi Federal University of Education), where he progressively rose through the ranks from Lecturer III to Chief Lecturer and Associate Professor.

  • Research Footprint: As a prolific scholar, his peer-reviewed publications and textbooks focus heavily on bilingualism, national language policy, and conflict resolution frameworks within educational institutions.
