Police Arrest Four Suspects Linked To Adelabu’s Sister’s Abduction
Oyo Police rescued Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons, arrested four kidnapping suspects, killed two during a gun battle, and recovered weapons in a successful operation in Ibadan.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects and the killing of two others during a rescue operation that secured the freedom of Busola John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her two children.
The operation, carried out on Saturday night in the Ayegun area of Oluyole Local Government Area, led to the successful rescue of the victims after several days in captivity.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, said the breakthrough followed credible intelligence received by the police.
According to him, officers acted swiftly on a tip-off that led them to a three-bedroom bungalow where the kidnappers had allegedly hidden the victims.
The police boss disclosed that a fierce gun battle erupted during the operation, resulting in the death of two suspected kidnappers, while four others were arrested.
He added that several other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds and are currently being tracked by security operatives.
Police also recovered firearms, including a pump-action gun and other items believed to have been used by the criminal group.
Busola John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons were abducted in the early hours of Wednesday while travelling in Ibadan.
The victims were reportedly intercepted by armed men at the Elewura-Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area after being trailed from their residence.
The incident generated widespread concern across Oyo State, with security agencies launching intensive efforts to locate and rescue the family.
The successful operation has been described as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
Police authorities assured residents that investigations are ongoing to apprehend all remaining members of the gang and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the abduction.
The command also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information that can assist security agencies in combating crime and improving public safety.
