Police: Adelabu Family’s Aide Linked To Sister’s Kidnap
Oyo Police Command says an aide linked to the Adelabu family conspired with kidnappers of the former minister’s sister and her twin sons abducted in Ibadan, with investigations ongoing.
The Oyo State Police Command has disclosed that a personal assistant attached to a member of the family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, allegedly collaborated with kidnappers who abducted the ex-minister’s sister and her twin sons in Ibadan.
Police spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, made the revelation on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television, noting that preliminary investigations uncovered an insider role in the operation.
According to him, the suspect allegedly supplied information on the family’s movements and routines, which helped the kidnappers successfully execute the abduction on June 3, 2026, along the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan.
He explained that the victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were taken while she was escorting them to school.
Ayanlade said operatives of the Nigeria Police Force launched a coordinated rescue operation involving intelligence gathering and tactical deployment, which eventually led to the location of the kidnappers’ hideout.
He added that a fierce gun battle ensued during the operation, resulting in the death of two suspects, while several others were arrested and are assisting investigations.
The police confirmed that the victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their family.
Authorities described the operation as a major breakthrough in efforts to combat kidnapping in Oyo State, noting that investigations are ongoing to identify all those involved in the conspiracy.
Security experts say the case highlights the increasing trend of insider involvement in abductions across Nigeria, where trusted associates often aid criminal networks.
The police command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as part of broader efforts to curb violent crime.
