ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has charged governors and political stakeholders from the six North-East states, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe, to step up efforts in combating persistent security challenges, asserting that Nigeria's economy has stabilized and entered a "golden age" that requires subnational support to sustain.

The President gave the charge at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa when he hosted a delegation of North-East political leaders, elder statesmen, ministers, traditional rulers, and senior government officials led by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe.

The high-level visit was arranged to formally show appreciation to President Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the upcoming 2027 general election and to pledge the zone's unified political endorsement for the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Addressing the delegation, President Tinubu emphasized that overcoming insurgency and criminal networks in the region requires close collaboration between state authorities and federal security structures.

The President assured the delegation that macroeconomic reforms are already yielding stability and social benefits, noting that his administration is actively clearing long-standing pension backlogs inherited from previous governments.

Highlighting key capital investments, Tinubu pointed to major ongoing transport projects, including the Akwanga-Bauchi-Gombe–Biu-Maiduguri superhighway, as proof of his administration fulfilling infrastructure pledges made to the region.

Governor Babagana Zulum thanked the President on behalf of the six states for maintaining political continuity with Vice President Shettima, expressing gratitude to North-Central and North-West leaders for supporting the power-sharing arrangement.
