Plateau State Agricultural Communities Plunged into Mourning Following Fatal Agrarian Attack

PLATEAU—Farming groups condemned a fatal attack in Foron District that killed a farmer and saw 50 cows rustled. They urged immediate security deployments to protect the agrarian economy.

Local farming organizations have condemned a fresh wave of violence targeting agricultural communities in Plateau State, following a fatal weekend attack in the Duru-Kamang community of Foron District.

The incident resulted in the death of a prominent 47-year-old local livestock farmer, Samuel Tsok, and the subsequent rustling of approximately 50 cows by armed invaders. The Berom Youth-Moulders Association (BYM), through its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, verified the details of the raid, describing it as a direct threat to the rural agrarian economy.

Agricultural analysts warn that persistent security challenges in key food-producing belts across Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bassa local government areas continue to discourage long-term investments in commercial livestock production and crop cultivation. Farming cooperatives are calling for immediate security deployments to safeguard rural communities ahead of the intensive wet season planting phase.
