Pirlo Agrees to Become Italy Head Coach – Report

Former Italy and AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the Italy national team, accepting a long-term project aimed at restoring the country's fortunes after its failure to qualify for a third consecutive FIFA World Cup. According to Italian media reports, Pirlo is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) after leaving his role at Dubai United.

Pirlo's appointment comes after the FIGC's unsuccessful attempts to recruit Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti. Guardiola reportedly turned down the offer despite discussions with federation officials, prompting Italy to turn to the 2006 World Cup winner as the preferred candidate to lead the team's rebuilding process.

The 47-year-old enjoyed a distinguished playing career, winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Italy and collecting numerous domestic and European titles with AC Milan and Juventus. As a coach, he guided Juventus to Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana success before managing clubs including Fatih Karagümrük, Sampdoria, and most recently Dubai United.

Pirlo is expected to officially take charge in the coming days, with his first assignment likely to be Italy's UEFA Nations League fixtures later this year. His appointment is seen as the beginning of a long-term effort to revive the Azzurri and return them to the top level of international football.
