The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has fired back at critics over claims that its recent nationwide prayer programme was an initiative of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) or its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has described allegations linking its recent three-day nationwide prayer and fasting programme to Pastor Enoch Adeboye or the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) as "false, misleading, and entirely baseless."

In a stronglyworded statement issued on Saturday, the National Secretary of the PFN, **Bishop David Bakare**, clarified that the spiritual exercise was conceived, approved, and executed solely under the authority of the PFN leadership.

The clarification follows social media narratives and criticisms suggesting that the programme was a "RCCG affair" or that Pastor Adeboye was behind the move.

"It is deeply unfortunate and irrational for anyone to attempt to attribute the programme to Pastor E.A. Adeboye or the Redeemed Christian Church of God," Bakare stated. "The RCCG never called for any protest. The programme was entirely a PFN initiative."

According to the PFN scribe, the National Executive Council of the fellowship met on May 19, 2026, to deliberate on Nigeria's pressing socio-economic and security challenges. The council subsequently resolved to hold a three-day national fasting and prayer session from May 22 to May 24, 2024.

Bakare explained that while the RCCG and its members participated, they did so merely as responsible members of the broader Pentecostal community complying with a directive from the PFN.

"All directives, instructions, and operational decisions originated from the PFN leadership without any interference whatsoever from Pastor Adeboye or the RCCG," he added.

Addressing the timing of the event, the PFN noted that the final day of the prayer coincided with **Pentecost Sunday**, a globally recognized Christian observance. The fellowship stressed that the gatherings were part of a worldwide celebration and were not peculiar to any single denomination.

The PFN also revealed that it had initially considered including public processions and the use of placards as part of the exercise but chose to suspend that aspect following a careful assessment of the prevailing security situation in the country.

While expressing satisfaction with the success of the programme, the fellowship warned against the spread of false narratives aimed at respected Christian leaders, urging the public and media practitioners to verify information before sharing content capable of causing division.
