PDP Crisis: Wabara, Babangida Aliyu, Jerry Gana, Others Sue INEC, Seek Recognition
PDP leaders led by Adolphus Wabara have sued INEC, seeking recognition of the party’s interim NWC and urging the commission to update records following recent court rulings.
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission, seeking recognition of the party’s interim National Working Committee (NWC).
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, was instituted by prominent PDP leaders, including Adolphus Wabara, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Jerry Gana, Olabode George, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina and Esther Uduehi.
The plaintiffs are asking the court to compel INEC to update its records and publish the names of interim NWC members forwarded by the PDP’s BoT and National Executive Committee (NEC).
The legal action follows recent appellate court rulings linked to the party’s leadership dispute. According to the plaintiffs, several judicial decisions created vacancies in the PDP leadership structure, prompting the BoT to establish an interim NWC pending the conduct of a valid national convention.
They further alleged that despite receiving official communications on the composition of the interim committee, INEC has failed to update its records or formally recognize the leadership body.
The plaintiffs are seeking court declarations affirming INEC’s obligation to comply with relevant court judgments and recognize the interim NWC as the party’s legitimate leadership structure.
