Osun Poll: APGA Candidate Steps Down, Backs Oyebamiji

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Adeyemi-Doro announced his decision on Saturday during an Osun Youth Interactive Session with Oyebamiji, organised by the APC Campaign Council in Osogbo.

The APGA candidate said his decision followed consultations with the party’s executives and members across the state, adding that APGA had reached an agreement to collaborate with the APC ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

He said the decision was based on the belief that both parties shared progressive ideals and expressed confidence that the alliance would help deliver Osun State to Oyebamiji.

“I am here today to declare publicly to the good people of Osun State our allegiance, support, and collaboration as we join His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, and the All Progressives Congress,” Adeyemi-Doro said.

He added that he had closely assessed the candidates and consulted with the APGA state chairman, secretary and other senior members before the party reached the decision.

Responding, Oyebamiji thanked Adeyemi-Doro and APGA supporters for the endorsement, saying the development would strengthen his campaign ahead of the election.

The APC candidate also promised to engage with other political parties in the state in an effort to secure broader support.

“Thank you so much. I appreciate this, and I want to assure you that we will work together to rescue Osun State from the current bad government. Your people will be taken care of,” Oyebamiji said.

He said the APC remained open to working with other political groups to build what he described as a greater Osun State.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Directorate of Youth, Students and Civil Society of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Ayodele Asalu, said the interactive session was designed to give young people an opportunity to question Oyebamiji about his plans for the state.

Asalu said the discussions focused on education, employment, entrepreneurship, skills development and youth participation in governance.

He urged participants from different political parties to assess the candidates based on their policies and proposed solutions to the challenges facing Osun State.

The August 15 governorship election will determine the next governor of Osun State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the election.
