Ondo Police Begin Major Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles, Covered Number Plates
Ondo Police Launch Crackdown on Unregistered Vehicles, Covered Number Plates
The Ondo State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting unregistered vehicles and motorists using covered, concealed, altered, or defaced number plates. The move is aimed at strengthening security and improving the ability of law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, the exercise follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordering police commands nationwide to intensify enforcement against vehicles operating without proper registration or with tampered identification details.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, directed officers across the state to enforce the order professionally and in accordance with the law while respecting the rights of citizens.
Police authorities expressed concern over the increasing trend of motorists deliberately concealing or altering vehicle registration numbers to evade identification. The Command warned that such practices pose serious security risks, as criminals often exploit unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles to commit crimes and avoid detection.
Under the new enforcement measures, vehicles found without approved registration plates or displaying obscured, covered, altered, or defaced numbers may be stopped, impounded, and subjected to legal processes as stipulated by law.
The police urged all motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that registration numbers remain clearly visible at all times. Authorities stressed that compliance with registration regulations is not only a legal obligation but also an important tool for crime prevention and public safety.
Residents were also encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during the operation and report suspicious vehicles or activities to the nearest police station. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
