Ondo APC Elders Urge Members to Accept NWC's Candidate List Decision
Ondo APC elders have called on aggrieved party members to accept the National Working Committee's revised candidates' list, urging them to prioritise party unity and support the APC's preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have urged aggrieved party members to accept the National Working Committee's (NWC) decision on the party's National Assembly candidates, calling for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. The appeal follows protests by some party faithful over the revised list of candidates released by the APC leadership.
Speaking in Akure, Chairman of the APC Elders Forum, Demola Ijabiyi, said the NWC's decision reaffirmed the party's commitment to its constitution, internal democracy and established procedures. He maintained that while some members might be disappointed, the supremacy of the party must take precedence over individual ambitions and sectional interests.
The elders argued that the primary elections conducted in the state were marred by irregularities and candidate imposition, making the NWC's intervention necessary to restore confidence in the nomination process. According to the forum, the revised candidates' list was intended to correct perceived flaws and protect the party's electoral prospects ahead of the polls.
Ijabiyi warned that continued protests and acts of defiance could undermine party discipline and unity. He encouraged dissatisfied aspirants and their supporters to pursue reconciliation, support the party's decisions and work collectively towards securing victory for the APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The appeal comes amid lingering tensions within the Ondo APC after the release of the revised National Assembly candidates' list, with some members insisting the changes did not reflect the outcome of the party's primary elections. Despite the disagreements, party leaders continue to emphasise dialogue and unity as preparations for the general elections gather momentum.
