Gunmen Launch Fresh Attack on NIPSS, One Assailant Killed in Gun Battle
Security operatives successfully repelled another attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Plateau State, killing one suspected gunman and forcing others to flee. No casualties were recorded within the institute, and security has since been strengthened.
Security operatives at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, have repelled another attack by suspected gunmen, killing one of the assailants during a late-night exchange of gunfire. The attempted assault occurred barely two weeks after a previous attack on the country's foremost policy and leadership training institution.
According to a statement issued by the institute's Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, the attackers attempted to breach the institute's security perimeter at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday but were met with swift resistance from security personnel. During the gun battle, one of the attackers was neutralised, while others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
The institute confirmed that the security perimeter was not breached and that all participants, staff, residents and facilities within the campus remained safe. Security agencies have since intensified surveillance around the area and launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
NIPSS reassured the public that the safety of lives and property remains its top priority, urging residents to disregard rumours capable of causing unnecessary panic. The institute also commended security personnel for their prompt response, which prevented what could have been another major security breach.
The latest incident follows an earlier attack on the institute in mid-June, during which three security operatives were killed while repelling armed assailants. The renewed assault has heightened concerns over security in Plateau State despite ongoing efforts by security agencies to protect strategic national institutions.
