Nigerian Woman Completes 144-Hour Bible Reading Guinness World Record Attempt
Nigerian woman Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack has completed a 144-hour Bible reading marathon in Port Harcourt as she seeks Guinness World Records recognition for the longest continuous reading of the Holy Bible. Her attempt now awaits official verification.
A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, has completed a 144-hour Bible reading marathon in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous reading of the Holy Bible. The feat was achieved after six days of non-stop reading under Guinness World Records guidelines.
The marathon, tagged "144 Hours in the Word," concluded on Monday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Conducted under official Guinness World Records regulations, the challenge required Habibat to read the Bible aloud continuously, with only limited breaks permitted for essential needs. The initiative was designed to encourage deeper engagement with Scripture and inspire believers to develop a stronger commitment to Bible study.
According to organisers, the journey to the record attempt began in 2022 after years of preparation, discipline and spiritual dedication. Throughout the event, Habibat received support from family members, church members, friends and well-wishers, many of whom gathered at the venue and followed her progress online.
Habitat, a member of Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, said the challenge was more than a bid for international recognition, describing it as a faith-driven mission to promote God's Word. Her Senior Pastor, Dr Andy Osakwe, also said the marathon was intended to inspire Christians to study the Bible more consistently and deepen their spiritual lives.
The attempt will now undergo the official verification process by Guinness World Records before it can be recognised. If approved, it will add another Nigerian achievement to the growing list of endurance records set by the country's citizens on the global stage.
