Nigeria Not Beyond Redemption, Pay Your Taxes for Me to Do More — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria remains on the path to recovery, urging citizens to pay taxes to support infrastructure development while commissioning a major road interchange in Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is not beyond redemption, stating that ongoing infrastructure projects across the nation demonstrate the government’s commitment to economic growth and national development.
The President made the declaration on Thursday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16–Ring Road III Interchange linking Jahi District to Gwarimpa District in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu described the project as more than just a road and bridge infrastructure, saying it represents renewed hope, improved mobility, and economic opportunities for residents of the capital city.
According to him, the newly completed interchange will significantly reduce traffic congestion that previously affected movement between key districts in Abuja.
“I’m very proud to stand here to commission this Arterial Road Interchange N16 linking Jahi District to Gwarimpa District of the FCT,” he said.
“This is not just a bridge and slip roads; this is freedom of movement and time returned to the people. This is renewed hope that you can even drive on.”
Tinubu noted that the area had long been plagued by severe traffic gridlock, causing delays, wasted fuel, and economic losses for residents and businesses.
“This intersection used to choke the entirety of Abuja. Gridlock stretched from Maitama to Gishiri and from Jahi to Gwarimpa. Hours were lost, fuel was wasted, and businesses suffered. Today, that story ends,” he stated.
The President emphasized that infrastructure development remains a central pillar of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing roads as critical assets for economic expansion and national prosperity.
“Infrastructure is the foundation of prosperity, which is the cardinal principle of this administration. Roads are the arteries of a nation. When we connect districts, we connect destinies,” he said.
Tinubu added that the successful completion of the interchange demonstrates that Nigeria is capable of overcoming its challenges through focused leadership, discipline, and political will.
“The Jahi-Gwarimpa interchange is proof that Nigeria is not beyond redemption. With focus, discipline, and political will, Nigeria will deliver, and we are delivering. The FCT is delivering,” he said.
The President also urged residents and Nigerians generally to fulfill their civic responsibilities by paying taxes and statutory levies, stressing that government revenue remains essential for funding additional infrastructure and development projects.
“Also pay your taxes and levies so that government can do even more for you,” he added.
