Nigeria Democratic Congress Officially Refutes Unauthorized Candidate List Circulating Online
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially disowned a list of party candidates currently trending across social media platforms, labeling the document as a total fabrication.
The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially distanced the party from a document currently making rounds on social media platforms, which purports to be the definitive list of its electoral candidates for the upcoming polls. In a strong-worded statement issued on Thursday, the party described the list as "completely fabricated" and warned members of the public to disregard the deceptive publication.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary addressed the confusion directly, asserting that the NDC has not authorized or released any official candidate rosters for the forthcoming general elections. According to the party, the document is a malicious attempt by external political opponents to manipulate public perception, sow internal discord among party members, and distract the organization from its active campaign preparations.
“The attention of the National Working Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has been drawn to a fraudulent and misleading list of candidates being circulated on various social media outlets,” the statement read. “We wish to unequivocally state that this document is a forgery and does not represent the official position of the party. The party’s authentic list of standard-bearers will be released exclusively through our verified communication channels and press portals.”
The NDC further clarified that internal administrative processes regarding candidate vetting, final selection, and the submission of credentials to the electoral commission are still ongoing. The party cautioned that any information regarding its electoral ticket that does not carry an official seal and validation from the party’s national secretariat should be treated as dangerous misinformation.
Party stakeholders have been urged to remain calm and steadfast, with the leadership promising that a transparent, official disclosure will be made in the coming days. The NDC also warned that it is working with digital forensic experts and cybersecurity units to identify the primary sources of the counterfeit list and hold the architects of the disinformation campaign accountable.
