NDLEA Destroys 51 Hectares of Cannabis, Arrests 281 Suspects in Ekiti
The NDLEA says it destroyed 51 hectares of cannabis farms and arrested 281 suspects during a statewide anti-drug operation in Ekiti, as part of efforts to combat illicit drug cultivation and trafficking.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has destroyed 51 hectares of cannabis farms and arrested 281 suspects during a major anti-drug operation across Ekiti State.
The agency said the exercise formed part of ongoing efforts to curb the cultivation, trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs in the state. NDLEA operatives reportedly carried out raids in several communities identified as hotspots for cannabis cultivation and other drug-related activities.
According to the agency, large quantities of cannabis were uprooted and destroyed during the operation, while suspects linked to drug farming, trafficking and distribution were taken into custody for further investigation.
NDLEA officials stated that the crackdown was aimed at dismantling drug networks and preventing the harmful effects of substance abuse on communities, particularly among young people. The agency added that it would continue intelligence-led operations to identify and prosecute individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
Authorities also urged residents to support the campaign against drug abuse by providing useful information that could help security agencies track down offenders.
The operation is one of the largest recent anti-drug exercises in Ekiti State and underscores the NDLEA’s renewed focus on reducing the supply of illicit substances and promoting safer communities.
