NDC To Introduce Electronic Voting For Future Primaries — Dickson

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced plans to introduce electronic voting for future party primaries as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and build a more transparent, technology-driven political system.

The party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this during the inaugural Aspirants Dinner held in Abuja for party stakeholders and screened aspirants.

Dickson said the NDC had already developed a mobile voting application that would eventually allow registered party members to vote directly from their phones during primaries and congresses.

According to him, the rollout was temporarily delayed to allow further testing and coordination with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He stated that the party intends to deploy the system fully within the next few months, arguing that Nigeria’s electoral process should increasingly embrace electronic voting technologies.

Dickson also stressed that the NDC was not being built as a “special-purpose vehicle” for any single politician ahead of the 2027 elections.

His comments come amid growing opposition realignments involving figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The former governor said the party aimed to become a long-term democratic institution built on transparency, inclusion and ideology rather than individual ambition.

He further revealed that the NDC had established a 21-member Selection Committee to coordinate candidate selection for governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly positions.

Dickson added that the party was building structures from ward to national level to promote grassroots participation and create opportunities for youths and women.

Speaking at the event, Peter Obi assured aspirants that their sacrifices and contributions to the party would not be wasted even if they failed to secure tickets.

Obi urged members to remain committed to nation-building despite political setbacks and reflected on concerns raised by Nigerians abroad during his recent visit to South Africa.

According to him, many Nigerians overseas expressed frustration over worsening insecurity and economic conditions at home.

NDC chieftain Buba Galadima also appealed to aspirants to remain loyal to the party despite intense competition for tickets.

Several aspirants and defectors at the event praised the screening process as transparent and merit-driven, while citing insecurity, corruption and economic hardship as reasons for joining the NDC.
