She encouraged greater use of libraries and learning resources, stressing that consistent reading helps young people gain knowledge and skills for the future.
The National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Chinwe Anunobi, has called on Nigerian youths to develop a stronger reading culture as part of efforts to improve education, critical thinking, and national development.
She made the appeal in a goodwill message marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration in Abuja, where she emphasised that reading remains one of the most powerful tools for personal growth and lifelong learning.
Anunobi noted that consistent reading helps young people acquire knowledge, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society. She encouraged children and teenagers to take advantage of library resources and reading programmes available across the country.
She also highlighted the role of the National Library of Nigeria in promoting literacy through book clubs, learning centres, and digital platforms designed to support students and young learners.
According to her, improving reading habits among youths is essential for strengthening education outcomes and supporting national development goals, especially in a rapidly changing digital world.
The library chief reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to expanding access to learning materials and promoting a culture of continuous education across all regions of the country.
