The Lagos State Government has disclosed that properties worth about N118.32 billion were saved from fire incidents in 2025, while properties valued at N19.72 billion were lost to various fire outbreaks across the state.

The Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, revealed this during the 2026 ministerial press briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, to commemorate the seventh anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

Presenting the performance report of agencies under his ministry, Oyerinde said the figures reflected the increasing operational efficiency and emergency response capacity of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and other disaster management agencies.

According to him, the state recorded a significant success rate in containing fire incidents and reducing the scale of economic losses.

“The estimated property saved during the period under review exceeded the total losses by more than six times, resulting in a net asset protection value of approximately N98.60 billion,” he stated.

Oyerinde explained that March 2025 recorded the highest value of properties saved, estimated at N12.60 billion, while August recorded the lowest at N6.78 billion.

He attributed the lower incidents recorded in August to reduced emergency cases during the peak of the rainy season.

The commissioner further disclosed that March also witnessed the highest level of fire-related losses, which stood at N2.10 billion, while August recorded the least losses at about N1.13 billion.

According to the report, fire-related emergencies accounted for 1,685 incidents, representing the majority of emergencies handled by firefighters and rescue agencies throughout the year.

Oyerinde noted that the state government has continued to strengthen emergency response systems through improved equipment, personnel training, and inter-agency collaboration to enhance public safety.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving disaster preparedness and emergency management across Lagos, especially in densely populated commercial and residential areas vulnerable to fire outbreaks.

The Lagos State Government has repeatedly urged residents, businesses, and market operators to comply with fire safety regulations and take preventive measures to reduce the risk of fire incidents across the state.
