Market Leaders Rescue APC Chieftain Joe Igbokwe from Mob Attack at Ladipo Market
APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe was rescued from an angry mob at the Ladipo Market in Lagos by market leaders, who intervened swiftly to avert a violent confrontation.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, narrowly escaped a mob attack at the Ladipo Market in Lagos State, with prompt intervention by market leaders helping to avert what could have escalated into a violent situation.
Drama unfolded at the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market in the Mushin area of Lagos State when a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, was reportedly confronted by an angry mob, sparking tension within the bustling commercial hub.
According to reports, the situation threatened to spiral out of control before the timely intervention of market leaders, who stepped in to rescue the embattled politician and prevent the confrontation from turning violent.
Igbokwe, a well-known APC stalwart and former aide to the Lagos State Government, was said to have visited the market when he was accosted by a group of traders, leading to a heated exchange that quickly drew a crowd.
Sensing the danger the situation posed, leaders of the market association reportedly mobilised swiftly to shield the politician and escort him to safety, thereby averting a possible breakdown of law and order.
The market leaders were said to have appealed for calm, urging the traders and bystanders to refrain from any act capable of disrupting the peace and commercial activities at the market.
The exact reason for the confrontation remained unclear at the time of this report, though the incident has further highlighted the tense political atmosphere in parts of Lagos State.
Igbokwe, who is known for his outspoken political views and active presence on social media, has in the past been involved in similar confrontations with groups opposed to his political positions.
Security operatives were said to have been deployed to the area to restore order and forestall any further escalation, while normal activities later resumed at the market.
As of the time of this report, the police were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
