Landlord Apprehended After 23-Year-Old Nursing Student Is Discovered Dead in Anambra Residence
A 23-year-old ND II nursing student, Chiamaka Chilaka, was found dead with visible marks of violence inside her apartment in Alor, Anambra State.
A 23-year-old nursing student enrolled at the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, located in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been discovered dead inside her apartment in the Uruezeani quarter of Alor.
The deceased, identified as Chiamaka Chilaka, was an ND II student at the institution and a native of Isingu in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State. Her lifeless body was found on Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of local church services.
A video circulating widely across social media platforms captured a distressed clergyman weeping uncontrollably over the tragedy,
repeatedly calling out, “My daughter, my daughter,” in deep anguish. Accompanying accounts shared alongside the footage alleged that the student had been subjected to persistent, unwanted sexual advances from her landlord, all of which she had firmly turned down. Additional testimonies claimed she was last seen alive engaged in a heated dispute with him.
Confirming the development in an official briefing on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, announced that the landlord has been taken into custody while investigations proceed.
Ikenga stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an immediate, full-scale inquiry after the case files were formally transferred from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.
According to the spokesperson, law enforcement operatives who processed the crime scene detected distinct physical trauma on the victim's body, including a severe laceration on her thigh, multiple marks of physical violence, and blood spillage, all strongly pointing toward foul play.
The official statement from the command noted:
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigative officers to expedite action on the investigation into the reported suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student, whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.”
The state command re-emphasized that its specialized detectives are working rapidly to unravel the exact circumstances surrounding the student's death and ensure that justice is fully served.
