Kwara State Police Dismiss Rumors of Terrorist Raid in Oke-Oyi Community
The Kwara State Police Command has issued an official statement dismissing social media reports and public rumors of a bandit invasion in Oke-Oyi.
The Kwara State Police Command has officially debunked widely circulating reports alleging a bandit invasion within the Oke-Oyi community and its surrounding areas in the Ilorin East Local Government Area. Characterizing the claims as entirely baseless and deceptive, the command reassured members of the public that the territory remains peaceful and safe.
The security scare originated at approximately 9:15 AM following a sudden wave of panic and disorder at the Government Girls Secondary School, Oke-Oyi, fueled by unverified claims that armed criminals had breached the school's boundaries.
Upon receiving the distress signals, the Divisional Police Officer for the Oke-Oyi Division quickly mobilized a tactical team to the academic facility to assess the threat, protect the students and faculty, and restore order.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that the mass hysteria was triggered by an individual woman who unexpectedly entered the school premises shouting that bandits had arrived in the locality. The unconfirmed pronouncement spread rapidly among teachers and pupils, resulting in an immediate, temporary halt to normal academic procedures.
Following a thorough combing of the institution and the wider community, the state command verified that the alarm was completely false. Law enforcement officials confirmed that there were no armed incursions, no sightings of hostile actors, and zero security breaches across Oke-Oyi or any neighboring quarters.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, strongly condemned the dissemination of fabricated security alerts, noting that spreading unverified reports causes needless psychological trauma, disrupts public order, and inappropriately diverts critical security assets away from actual emergencies.
The command confirmed that it has launched an investigation to locate the individual responsible for generating the false alarm, warning that anyone found guilty of destabilizing public peace through malicious disinformation will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
