Lagos Police Dismiss Fears of School Attacks, Say No Credible Threat
The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed rumours of impending attacks on schools, assuring residents that there is no credible threat to educational institutions in the state.
The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of an imminent attack on schools in the state, assuring parents, students and school administrators that there is no credible threat to educational institutions.
The Lagos State Police Command has moved to calm growing anxiety among parents and school administrators, declaring that there is no credible intelligence or threat of attacks on schools in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command described circulating rumours of planned attacks on schools as false and baseless.
The command said it had received reports of panic among some parents and school owners following unverified claims making the rounds on social media, but stressed that its security assessments had not revealed any credible threat to schools.
“We wish to assure the good people of Lagos State, particularly parents, students and school administrators, that there is no credible threat to schools in the state,” the statement read.
The police urged members of the public to disregard the rumours and go about their normal activities, noting that the command had put adequate security measures in place to ensure the safety of schools and students.
It further advised school proprietors and administrators to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station or emergency lines.
The command also appealed to parents and guardians not to allow the unverified reports to cause unnecessary panic or disrupt the academic calendar.
The reassurance comes amid heightened national concern over school abductions in parts of the country, which has led to increased vigilance and security concerns in many states.
The Lagos State Police Command said it remained committed to the protection of lives and property, and would continue to work with other security agencies and stakeholders to maintain a safe learning environment for students.
