The presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party, Aliyu Bin Abbas, has raised concerns over reports of a possible attempt to replace his name as the party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abbas, in a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, said any attempt to substitute his candidacy without his consent and outside established legal and party procedures would undermine democratic principles.

He said he had received information about alleged political pressure concerning the party’s presidential ticket, although he did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the claim.

The ADP candidate stressed that any decision affecting the presidential ticket must comply with the Constitution of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, the ADP constitution and applicable Independent National Electoral Commission procedures.

Abbas said he emerged as the party’s presidential candidate through its recognised processes and insisted that any subsequent change must be handled transparently and according to the law.

He urged the ADP National Chairman, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees and state chairmen to protect the integrity of the party’s nomination process.

He also called for the preservation of official records relating to the presidential primary, nomination documents and communications with INEC.

Abbas maintained that his candidacy should not be treated as a political bargaining tool and urged party leaders to respect the rights of members and supporters.
